Gardening expert Paraic Horkan has chosen the beautiful Hydrangea Blueberry Cheesecake as his June plant of the month. This is a beautiful long flowering Hydrangea which is an easy to grow flowering shrub.
It begins to bloom in mid-June and carries its lovely lace cap flowers until early winter. The striking and unusual mophead purple blue flowers have the colour of lovely blueberries. Paraic explains that this particular variety of Hydrangea flowers on both the old and new growth which increases the number of flowers carried through the summer and autumn seasons.
Paraic recommends that you should plant the Hydrangea Blueberry Cheesecake in a mixed shrub border or to fill a gap in existing borders to add a contrast of colour to more vibrant flowering plants. Like most of the hydrangeas, the flower colour responds to the soils pH, so they will be blue in acidic conditions and pink in neutral or alkaline soils.
This variety of Hydrangea will grow in full sun or partial shade. The Hydrangea Blueberry Cheesecake is on the top of Paraic’s list of flowering plants to add long-lasting colour this summer.
